Our mission : To increase the life-time income of the youth we serve
Our values: Faith, Integrity, Respect, Effort
Pro-Pare Athlete Management Trust offers a positive youth development service to youth with a keen interest in sport.
Our youth are male Pacific and Pacific-Maori aged 14-18. The trust is based in Mt Smart/Onehunga where it has the use of clubrooms
(The Hub) and its own gym equipment. From 4-8pm we provide gym and field training, tutoring,
mentoring and dinner. During the day we provide
training, mentoring, and correspondence school supervision to a small number of youth
disengaged from school. On the weekend, particularly Saturday, we provide transport and support our youth on the sportsfield.
We have a second, smaller, Hub in Sunnyvale, West Auckland
Our services include
July 2023 This year, the NCEA credit-earning short course we hold over four days was attended by 37 students. Ten credits are available, at Level 2 or 3, on each of the four days. The unit standards offered are lifestyle or work-preparation related.
July 2023 Every year we host the McGregor Cup, a live-streamed rugby league tournament. It is a major recruitment and retention event for us. The 2023 tournament was held at Bruce Pulman Park and was won by the Onehunga Dolphins.
Jun 2023 Back at Ngaruawahia for the 2023 Tough Guy & Gal Mud Run, and hopefully 4 NCEA credits in Physical Education. Our big new van was packed. There were thunderstorms at the venue overnight. It was awesome.
Jun 2023 We had two youth competing in this corporate boxing event at ABA. Ten weeks of training for a few minutes in the ring!
Jun 2023 We cleared the mud away from the 'island' in the the big stormwater pond. A large log or stump has been left behind. This has been trapping sediment for decades.
Jun 2023 Ten youth attended a two-day forklift training course at RT Equipment in Wiri. That's 14 NCEA credits at Level 3 and great opportunities for holiday jobs.
Jun 2023 King's Birthday and a road trip to Rotorua to watch the annual NZMRL rangatahi tournament. We had boys playing in U19 and U17 teams. Here's a photo of the U19 winners - Counties-Manukau Maori.
May 2023 We have hot water! It's taken three years but we finally have the funding to run hot water to the kitchen, toilets, indoor shower, and our new outdoor shower!
May 2023 We have a new van. An 11-seater to replace the worn-out 7-seater vehicle gifted to us, but needing a new engine, back in 2020. A big thank you to the Ministry for Pacific Peoples who provided most of the funding for this.
Apr 2023 These rushes in the reserve have been smothered and killed by a ground creeper which has also gotten into some mature trees. Five truckloads of the creeper were taken away!
Feb 2023 Floods over anniversary weekend in Auckland left two of our youth homeless for some weeks. Their families couldn't afford the $300 per week per room the emergency accommodation provider wanted to charge so they lived at the Hub.
Dec 2022 it has been hard over the last two years with Covid-19 lockdowns and mandates limiting the opportunities for youth to obtain their licence. We aim for a learner licence in year 11, restricted in year 12, and full licence in year 13. |
|
Dec 2022 Summer school is a major part of our year. We have 18 students enrolled at summer school. This includes 5 year 13 students (and one year 12) who need a few credits to complete UE, two who need to complete NCEA level 3, five year 11 students who want to complete NCEA Level 2 and others who need specific standards so they can progress up a year level in one or more subjects.
Dec 2022 Here we are preparing to kayak across the Manukau. Thanks to Auckland Sea Kayaks and Mountains to Sea Charitable Trust, and to Sport Auckland and the Auckland Airport Community Trust for providing the funding. This is another opportunity to earn 3 Level Three PE credits.
Dec 2022 About to set up for a parents' evening. We have a new group of 16 year olds from Central Auckland. It's time for their parents to see where their boys are spending so much time, and to meet us.
Dec 2022 It's taken 100 years, but this is the first boys team (rugby 7s) Te Kura, the correspondence school, has ever been able to enter into a competition. The team is made up of PAMT youth.
Nov 2022 Our replacement truck. We provide a free (scrap) metal collection service to businesses and schools. This provides work experience and some pocket money for a few of the boys once they have their restricted licence.
Nov 2022 And here we are, going for a snorkel with the Eagle Rays at Goat Island. There are 3 NCEA Level 3 'outdoor safety planning' credits on offer. Thank you Mountains to Sea Conservation Trust for facilitating this.
Nov 2022 A snorkelling training session before our trip to Goat Island. We have swimming lessons in terms one and two, with regular swim sessions in terms 3 and 4. Many thanks to Tu Manawa (Sport Auckland) and the Auckland Airport Community Trust for their support.
Oct 2022 We hosted 4 days of NCEA credit earning courses in the September holidays. Students from Mt Albert Grammar School, Papakura High School, and Tamaki College grabbed this opportunity.
Sep 2022 The heart rate monitor. We look for an average heart rate of 150-160 beats per minute in a 45 minute moderate intensity aerobic or interval training session. This little beastie keeps the boys honest.
Aug 2022 Here we are in a tutoring session.
Jul 2022 Thank you Kookaburra and Youthtown for the donation of 100 pairs of sports shoes.
Jun 2022 It's become a popular annual event for us now. The Tough Guy & Tough Gal Mud Run. It's worth 8 NCEA credits - 4 for the run and 4 for the training programme.
Jun 2022 We spent a lot of time last summer clearing Alligator weed from the waterway, and now we have fish! A juvenile banded kokopu. Thank you whitebait connection for placing the net.
May 2022 The gym area at our Onehunga Hub. It's not flash but its enough to get the job done.
Mar 2022 The McGregor Cup. A short, live-streamed rugby league competition. We want to provide youth thinking of relocating to Australia to chase the NRL dream with an opportunity to be spotted by Australian clubs while staying in NZ.
Mar 2022 Our local MP, Priyanca Radhakrishnan, visted our Hub in Onehunga.
Mar 2022 We hosted 4 days of NCEA credit earning courses in the two weeks prior to the McGregor Cup. Students from De La Salle College, Mt Albert Grammar School, and Papakura High School grabbed the opportunity.
Feb 2022 One of these lads couldn't swim 10m two years ago. Now he's warming up to do his 40 lengths. |
